The Rosalie Moller wreck diving expedition is designed for qualified divers who want a deeper, less casual encounter with northern Red Sea maritime history. The British cargo ship rests upright in the Gulf of Suez, with the principal deck and superstructure already at depths that demand confident buoyancy, disciplined gas planning and recent deep-diving experience.

This is a carefully screened expedition rather than a standard hotel excursion. Before confirmation, the operator reviews every diver’s certification, logged experience, last dive date, gas qualifications and equipment needs. The operating port, vessel, dive profiles and fallback site are confirmed for the chosen date.

Rosalie Moller expedition at a glance

Duration Full-day or extended boat expedition, depending on operating port
Best for Experienced advanced, deep or technical divers
Typical profile Guided exterior wreck dives; technical plans by prior agreement only
Depth Upper structures are around the low-30-metre range; deeper areas extend beyond recreational limits
Confirmation Subject to diver approval, marine forecast, boat range and permissions

Why the Rosalie Moller is exceptional

The wreck’s upright position, masts, deck structures and wartime story create a powerful sense of place. Its depth and more remote setting can mean fewer visitors than the busiest Red Sea wrecks. Schooling fish often gather around the superstructure, while shaded sections provide habitat for typical wreck species; sightings and visibility always vary naturally.

Depth is the central planning factor. A guided exterior circuit within a conservative recreational profile is not the same product as penetration, staged decompression or mixed-gas diving. The written quotation identifies exactly which profile is offered and what equipment or gases are included.

Detailed expedition programme

1. Pre-trip diver assessment

Before the expedition day, provide copies or details of certification, total logged dives, recent dives below 30 metres, last dive date and any decompression, wreck or gas qualifications. The operator can request a local check dive before approving participation.

2. Marina meeting and equipment setup

Meet at the confirmed marina or use the arranged transfer. Assemble and test all equipment before sailing. Divers following a technical plan complete an additional check of redundant gas, regulators, computers, reels and decompression configuration.

3. Navigation and site briefing

During the crossing, the guide explains the wreck’s orientation, mooring or shot line, descent and ascent procedure, expected current, maximum depth, gas turn pressure, lost-line protocol, buddy separation rule and emergency plan. No website description replaces this live briefing.

4. First dive: orientation and exterior

The first dive usually prioritises the exterior, upper deck features, masts and recognisable superstructure. The exact circuit is adjusted to visibility, current, line position, gas supply and the team’s comfort. The guide can shorten the route at any time.

5. Surface interval and profile review

After the first dive, the team records depth, time and gas use, hydrates and completes the required surface interval. The second profile is recalculated from actual conditions rather than copied automatically from the first plan.

6. Second dive or alternative site

When conditions and diver performance allow, a second Rosalie Moller dive may cover a different exterior section or an operator-approved advanced route. If the site becomes unsuitable, the captain may select a shallower alternative wreck or reef.

7. Return and transfer

The boat returns to the operating marina after equipment is secured and the captain confirms safe departure. Hotel transfer follows only within the zone listed in your confirmation.

Who can join?

The Rosalie Moller is not appropriate for beginners or newly certified divers. A recognised advanced qualification is only a starting point; the operator also considers recent deep dives, buoyancy, line-descending confidence and gas awareness. Technical, decompression or penetration routes require the corresponding certification and equipment.

  • Bring proof of certification and a recent dive log.
  • Use a personal dive computer and adequate thermal protection.
  • Carry redundant gas and decompression equipment whenever the agreed plan requires it.
  • Use primary and backup lights for any approved overhead route.
  • Complete medical and liability documentation accurately.

Wreck safety and conservation

Do not remove artefacts, attach equipment to the wreck or disturb sediment. Penetration is permitted only within the exact route approved during the briefing. Weather, current, vessel position, visibility or group readiness can require delay, route changes or cancellation. The dive professional’s decision is final.
